N Porter

Saddlery-Saddle Maker
1875 in Taylor, TX
1895 in Phoenix, AZ
Phoenix, AZ

Newton Porter was born in Independence, MO, and set up the first saddle shop in Taylor, Texas around 1875. Abilene, Texas and Everett, Washington were other stops before Porter finally settled in Phoenix in 1895. Fine craftsmanship and high integrity couple with Porter's adaptability to changing styles and buyers' preferences made "Porters of Phoenix" one of the premier saddlemakers in the Southwest. A comprehensive mail-order catalogue and thousands of vacationing tourists, succumbing to the lure of the state's fabled past, contributed to the Porter reputation.
