Saddlery-Saddle Maker
San Francisco, CA
Main & Winchester recruited Samuel Keyston in 1867 to manage their whip department in San Francisco, but son, James, decided to open his own business that ultimately became the cornerstone for the San Francisco concern. Expanded into saddlery and harness shortly after the 1906 quake with the acquisition of competitor J C Johnson, followed by the purchase of legendary Main Winchester & Stone in '08 making them the largest saddlery on the West Coast. Gobbled up W Davis & Son in the early 20s, then as the horse and buggy era began to decline, initiated a junior cowboy line with their highly successful Lasso ‘em Bill label. Silver saddles, buckles and accessories filled the cash register after WWII, highlighted by the acquisition of the Hermann Heiser Co in 1950.
