Kevin Johnson started making bits and spurs in 2004, first for his brother-in-law then for rodeo cowboys. Today, he makes spurs full-time for a growing number of loyal collectors that include everyone from working cowboys to movie stars and famous musicians. He signs his spurs DADDYO because that’s what his three children call him.

Johnson admires traditional Texas-style spurs, especially the patterns of Adolf Bayers, the gal-leg shank, and the clean, impressive work of Bill Homer who serves as his inspiration and mentor. He admires the old ways of doing things, rolls out his own sterling and gold, and is proud to use his grandfather’s blacksmithing tongs in his forge work. As an accomplished artist, Johnson is adept at interpreting a theme. He then digitizes his art to fit his designs precisely to the spurs.
