Ace Reid

Artist
1925
BP: Wichita County, TX

Born in 1925. Ace grew up helping out on the family’s land in Wichita County, Texas. The Depression years were tough ones for the Reid family and Ace Sr. supported his family however he could: in the oil fields, by running cattle, and by doing a variety of other odd jobs. He soon realized that it was easier drawing cowboys than being one, which is where his famous Cowpokes cartoons began, combining the artist and storyteller with a twist of cowboy humor to portray a classic story of western life.
