Joe and Derlyes Nab

Clark Feed and Western Store
Paramount, CA

Billed as the “one-stop equestrian center,” Joe and Derlyes Nab’s Clark Feed and Western Store in Paramount, California, was one of the most successful Western Stores in the United States in the 1970s. Joe was a well-known horseman who served on the Board of Directors of both the Catalina Los Caballeros and Pacific Coast Hunter-Jumper Assn. Born and raised in Paramount where his father once owned a feed store, Nab became a partner in 1956 with Dave Clark in Clark Feed & Western Store, which was founded in the late 1930s. In 1966 Joe bought Clark out, becoming sole owner and by the early 1970s, doing over $1M in annual business. Joe befriended many of the best western and cowboy craftsmen that frequented the show horse circuit including prominent figures like Luis & Rose Ortega, Jim Wermuth and the Murray Brothers. Joe would buy, swap and trade silver mounted bits, spurs and braid work for cash, feed and store merchandise - proudly displaying each acquisition on the walls and beams of his immensely popular 8500 sq ft Southern California facility.

Joe’s son, Rick, an experienced Arabian horse trainer and judge himself, proudly carries on the Nab tradition of professionalism and service to the equine community today.
