Greg Kelsey

Artist
1971
BP: Pauls Valley, OK
LKL: Ignacio, CO

Raised in Oklahoma and Texas, Greg Kelsey has spent most of his life involved with his two loves, art and ranching. He grew up working his grandfather’s registered longhorn herd. Today his sculptures reflect his love of western history and cowboy life. Despite his busy work schedule in the studio he finds time to ride horseback nearly every day for “a little inspiration and peace of mind.”

When Kelsey began sculpting in the late 1990s, he discovered a passion for working with clay, an eye for design, and the ability to capture emotion and gesture in energetic compositions. “Whether it’s buckin’ horses, pushing cows or whatever,” he says, “that’s where I get my inspiration for art and everyday decisions. That’s the current and all those ideas and abilities seem to pass you by. Get back in the saddle,” he says, “and it’s all there again.”
