Ben Johnson

Ben Johnson was born in Pawhuska, OK of Irish-Cherokee lineage. A champion rodeo performer, he first arrived in Hollywood in the early ‘40s as a horse wrangler and stuntman - signing on for Howard Hughes’ The Outlaw, before the legendary John Ford cast him as the lead in The Wagonmaster. Ben starred in dozens of films both in and out of the saddle including Oklahoma, The Wild Bunch and Steve Spielberg’s Sugarland Express. He won a much-deserved Academy Award for his brilliant performance in The Last Picture Show.
