Neal Hart

Film Star
1870-1949

Hart joined Universal pictures in the teens, continuing the trend of real cowboys like Tom Mix, Buck Jones and Hoot Gibson, forsaking the range for movie work. Hart, however, was more than just a B movie actor - he also wrote and directed in addition to serving as the first President of the Riding Actors Association of Hollywood – a failed attempt by cowboys to organize their own Union in 1930s, much to the dismay of the autocratic movie moguls.
