Steve Devenyns

Artist
1953
LKL: Cody, WY

It was not until he was seriously injured in an automobile accident that Steve Devenyns began to draw and paint. He was a pre-veterinary student at the time, but decided to forego ambition so that he could pursue art as a career.

Raised in Colorado, Devenyns has always enjoyed wide-open spaces. His love for horses and livestock led him to participate in rodeos. As a painter, he prefers to portray “cowboys of today, the ones I’ve worked with on horseback.” As a horseman and outdoorsman himself who rides with his rancher friends working livestock, he paints contemporary western life to demonstrate that open spaces and the opportunity for freedom still exist for those who want it badly enough.
