The son and grandson of West Texas ranchers, Guy Deel was a well known Western Artist/ Illustrator and a close friend of Gene Autry. In fact, he painted the 140-foot mural at the Gene Autry Museum in Los Angeles, California, depicting the history of the American West. Deel painted over 250 book covers in the 1950s and 1960s including covers for Louis Lamour. He had a reputation for vivid historical accuracy and exceptional detail. His paintings have realized as much as $7,500.00 in past auctions and his work adorns the walls of such notable people as Charlie Daniels and Jimmy Dean. His artistic talent and reputation for historical accuracy have recently earned him a commission to create a 7’ mural to mark the centennial of his hometown, Irving, Texas.
