Though born Italian, Iron Eyes Cody lived and worked as an Indian for all his adult life; he labored for decades to promote Native American causes, and is best known as the Indian who sheds a tear for a blighted American environment in the “Keep America Beautiful” ads. In 1995, Cody was honored by Hollywood’s Native American community, for his efforts.
